Hydraulic Disc Brake System

The hydraulic disc brake system consists of a pair of brake discs mounted on the drawworks drum. Instead of the brake rim, a constant open and close brake tong set mounted on the support arm and a control cabin fitted with the brake handle and the hydraulic power device. By means of a lever arm, brake tong applies the spring force to both sides of the brake disc in the direction opposite from the rotating direction of the friction block. The constant-close brake tong releases the force that is produced by the spring in the cylinder by means of the hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic pressure required by the brake tong is from the hydraulic power device that includes two electric constant-pressure variable plunger pumps made by Parker Co. of the U.S., one electric gear pump for oil adding, filtering, circulating and cooling purpose and one manual large-displacement emergency pump. During the normal running, one plunger pump provides all power required by the brake system, the other is standby pump. The hydraulic accumulator not only provides the short-time power source for the brake system, but makes the braking response more sensitive. The main brake valve provides the normal operation of the drawworks with the adjustable control of the main brake. The emergency brake valve is used to handle the emergency or apply the brake after the driller leaves the control cabin, it is connected to the air way to realize the urgent brake when the anticollision valve acts or the air brake is made.

At present, hydraulic disc brake systems have been used in 1000m (3280)กซ7000m (23000ft) drilling rigs.

Performance and Features

1.It has the fully reserve brake torque and the reliable braking capacity, free from slipping or suddenly stopping the drilling.

2.A manual large-displacement emergency pump is used to ensure the safe brake and drilling in all case.

3.A foolproof type gap adjusting tong is used to adjust the gap between the brake disc and the friction block easily and accurately, ensuring reliable, smooth and flexible brake.

4.It can improve the labour environment and reduce the labour intensity. In the driller's cabin, the driller controls remotely the disc brake, the manual brake valve has the sensitive brake feel. The disc brake is convenient and strength-saving when in use and can lock the brake valve according to the brake torque required at any time, realizing the constant torque brake, therefore, it received favourable comments from drillers.

5.It is simple and convenient in maintenance, excellent in performance of friction and heat-resistant attenuation, and long in service life.

6.The hydraulic system is simple and neat in arrangement, less in trouble and sensitive in braking response, speeding up the drilling operation and ensuring the drilling quality.

7.Power source-unitized hydraulic station has complete functions, smart appearance and advanced performance. The hydraulic source combines original mechanized wellhead tools, YZ120 hydraulic station, disc brake hydraulic station, oil injecting and filtering truck and manual emergency pump into the unitized multifunction hydraulic station that is equipped with domestic and overseas name brand parts or elements with up-to-date structure, for example, the plunger pumps are imported from Parker Co. of the U.S, the oil filter is out-box type self-sealing high performance one, the hydraulic mechatronic design is made, realizing oil filter sonic-photo alarm, automatic oil temperature control and automatic low oil-level alarm and control. The explosion-proof electric control box and the hydraulic accessories are all mounted into the oil tank that can be open so as to inspect and repair. The unitized hydraulic station simplifies the hydraulic system of the drilling rig.
